Professor of Psychiatry and Family Medicine at the University of Toronto where he heads the Program In Health, Arts and Humanities.

When I was younger, I had a hard time  deciding whether to be a doctor or a writer. I decided to be both, weaving narrative into  all my work  with patients and students and ferociously protecting time for my creative writing. My vocation and avocation are now fully integrated, bringing me a sense of purpose and great pleasure in my work.  I'm not even sure which is which anymore!
